Description :

Indian Royal Stallion Miniature Painting

This artwork is an Indian miniature painting, a traditional style of highly detailed, small-scale art that flourished in the Indian subcontinent from the 16th century onward under various royal courts, including the Mughal and Rajput kingdoms.

The central focus is a lone, decorated royal stallion. Horses were highly revered symbols of status, martial power, and wealth in historical Indian courts. Portraits like this were often commissioned to commemorate specific royal steeds.

The profile view of the horse standing against a flat, monochromatic green background is standard for equestrian portraiture within the Rajasthani (Jaipur or Marwari) and Mughal traditions.

The horse is outfitted with a traditional ornate saddlecloth (namda), girth, and bridle.

The painting features a characteristic multi-layered inner frame or border sequence (shamsa or haashiya), used to frame the main subject elegantly before final mounting.

Double matted, shadow box style in camel and black matting under museum glass surrounded by a black lightly textured wood frame with reddish undertones.

15.75“ x 13.75“ x 1.25“
